Royce Gracie’s MMA career began in 1993 after defeating three opponents in the first Ultimate Fighting Championship. At that time there were few rules, and several of Royce’s opponents outweighed him by more than 50 pounds!
Royce Gracie has fought a total of 20 professional mixed martial arts fights, with 15 wins, but now he spends his time keeping Helio Gracie’s legacy alive. Helio Gracie, Royce’s father, is one of the founders of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and spent his life teaching the proven techniques and strategies of self-defense.
The black belts at Capital MMA & Elite Fitness were tested and certified by Royce Gracie. There are currently eight black belt instructors at Capital MMA who can tie their lineage directly to Royce Gracie and Helio Gracie. We always look forward to learning from the man who is largely responsible for the popularity of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in our country.
