Giving Thanks | Capital MMA & Elite Fitness

Giving Thanks | Capital MMA & Elite Fitness

I am grateful for the welcoming atmosphere and positive attitude that everyone has. Everyone treats each other with respect and works towards the goal of being better practitioners without ego. I’m grateful to be apart of it.
~Maverick Harris

I’m thankful for our Capital dojo everyday. I’m thankful that it’s helped me explore new angles of something that’s been my lifelong passion. I’m thankful that it’s humbled me. I’m thankful that it’s introduced me to a diverse community of genuinely good souls who’ll choke me, push me, crush me, joke around with me, drink with me, and check up on me after practice when I looked like I was having a bad day. I’m thankful that, even when it’s not safe to train together, my folks at Capital make me want to deepen my understanding of the Gentle Way and constantly make an extra effort to be a better guy. As soon as possible, I’ll see you all on the mat. Have a Happy and SAFE Thanksgiving and, as always, OSSSSS!!!
~Brian Futagaki

There is so much I am grateful for when it comes to Capital. But, I am particularly grateful for the coaches and staff during this time. They never missed a beat when the pandemic first started and continued to facilitate safe and effective training the best way possible. Thanks for working double time, remaining positive, and keeping us safe all while allowing us to maintain our training and sense of community during this time.
~Noelle Muratore

I’m thankful that my Capital family is always there for me.

It doesn’t really feel like you are going to the gym. It feels like you are going to a party!

I’m thankful for Capital because I’ve made great friends and I’ve been able to learn Jiu-Jitsu in a fun and friendly environment.
~Paul Sorensen

Capital is more than a name or a team, it’s a family. This year has been incredibly challenging for many of us, and for me personally. I have relied on my Capital family to help me through the challenges I have been faced with, both personally and professionally. Whether it’s a phone call, a class, a text or message from one of my Capital brothers and sisters, it’s given me a chance to laugh, share, love, and push through. In the good times and bad, I am grateful for my Capital family and the power of our relationships.
~BJ Ketchem

~Dr. Tommy Cathell

I’m so grateful that there’s a welcoming place like Capital for me to learn and flourish. Whether it’s CrossFit, BJJ or Muay Thai, all of the programs I have participated in have helped me with my mental clarity, provided people skills, taught me something new, and most of all made me feel welcome no matter what shape I was in along my journey.
~Caroline Fay

After sparring with someone twice your size, and pushing yourself further than you ever thought possible, absolutely everything else in life seems easy by comparison!

Capital is very family oriented and I love that!
~Rachel Hish

I’m most thankful for my Capital family. It says something that our community has survived this pandemic, and that I have every confidence it will continue to thrive once this is all behind us.
~Abe Mousavi

I am so thankful for not only Capital MMA but the coaches that instruct and have instructed my son in the past.  Their positive attitude, kindness, fun personalities, and mentorship is very much a value.  With all the challenges that our youth face nowadays they need a place where they can be themselves, get energy out, and be inspired.  This place makes a difference for my son and I’m sure many other children.  My family is very thankful for that.
~Sylvia Becker

I’m thankful for Capital because of the community. It doesn’t really feel like you are going to the gym. It feels like you are going to a party! It has also helped me build my self-confidence.
~Jenna Curry

I am thankful that, despite the restrictions, I have been able to teach and train twice a week at two different Capital locations. The passion and grit that I’ve seen on display from our Capital members has been inspiring. Creativity and flexibility have been on full exhibit, and I have never been prouder to be a member of this great family. Thank you all for joining me on this crazy ride!
~John Alan Perry

I love the opportunity that Capital gives me to be able to greet everyone and start my training with smile.
~Adrian Johnson

The world can be a mess sometimes, and 2020 is no exception. This year, our lives have been altered, comfort zones have been challenged, and our routines have faced either change or elimination altogether. One routine that most of us can agree is absolutely essential to our mental and physical well-being is our training. This year I am especially thankful for my gym. I’m thankful to Capital’s staff and members for finding ways to continue our routines safely and in compliance with health regulations. So much time and effort has been put into making sure our members are kept safe and still allowed to continue their training. As an active fighter, I’m beyond grateful for the support of the coaches and staff that have done everything in their power to keep me going.
~Joshua Hurst

I’m thankful for Capital because it is full of genuine and caring people.
~Atef Bensaid

As a long time Capital member myself, it’s wonderful to see my son take to the classes.

Moving to Northern Virginia as an adult can be a lonely venture. Its so big, there’s millions of people and everyone seems to be going 100 miles per hour. With a commute, working and the day-to-day chores, it can be tough to find time to meet people and make friends. After a lengthy layoff from Jiu-Jitsu, what a blessing to have found Capital MMA. A group of friends, a place to call home, and a family—all trying to choke each other unconscious!
~Court Thelen

I’m thankful that Capital is open for business and taking all of the necessary steps to keep the facilities clean day in and day out.
~Andrew Guglielmo

I’m thankful for how kind and open everyone is at Capital.

For almost a decade Capital MMA has been a refuge and an extended family for me. The classes help me physically of course, but also mentally. A huge part of who I am is thanks to my Capital family! After sparring with someone twice your size, and pushing yourself further than you ever thought possible, absolutely everything else in life seems easy by comparison!
~Ed Gattis

Team Takoma youth program has been running virtually since March. Jose “Rico” Seda has stepped up and taken the program to a different level. Under his leadership, he has the most phenomenal group of coaches working with him to ensure that the kid’s program is successful. I am grateful for Rico, Christopher Doscher, Byron Johnson, Nicolas Johnson. Dominick Lanzetta, David Singleton, Yoftahe Yirdaw, and John Tran.
