During last month’s semiannual guest seminar and black belt promotions, Abe Mousavi of Musa Visual Media, LLC filmed MERIDIAN: A short documentary about 4 men receiving promotions to black belt in Gracie/Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

The word meridian comes from the Latin ‘meridies’, meaning “midday”; the subsolar point passes through a given meridian at solar noon, midway between the times of sunrise and sunset on that meridian. (wikipedia)

This cycle continues, day in and day out… ad infinitum; much like one’s journey in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. There are markers along the way, much like hours on a clock or days on a calendar and sometimes we pause and acknowledge the time’s passing. No matter what, everything continues to move forward.

That’s what we have in this short documentary, a slight pause to acknowledge some very remarkable accomplishments by even more remarkable people. It’s an honor and a privilege to document these occasions for posterity and I could not be more proud of everyone who received promotions on this day.
